Diversity of the Doctor

The Suzuki DR-Z400E may not be ‘perfect’ to any one discipline when considered up against some of the specialised and single purpose bikes available today, however due to the diversity offered by the ‘Doctor’, you just might find it perfect for you.
One fair summary of the DR-Z is of it being a bush tractor having a sufficient dose of dirt churning grunt to make it fun to ride over what you can competently point it at.  It combines almost bullet proof reliability, an unmatched affordability for its quality and design, and an effective power spread that feeds fit-for-purpose ride-ability.  All which have made this bike (and its brother and sister models) uniquely popular.  

Still, you would be very disappointed and frustrated riding a DR-Z if your desire is a modern race bike, moto cross like suspension and earth shattering power within a lightweight frame.   Those it is not.  However, the DRZ is no lame beast and is quite capable in competent hands, having many benefits for the average rider. 

The DR-Z had an award-winning introduction to market and it has remained fit for purpose, for an amazing number of years.   It has synergy with the characteristics of a chameleon, requiring little change to transform;

  • A strong and reliable trail bike in standard form.
  • Well respected for easily becoming a practical multi-day ride / off-road adventure touring mount for any conditions.
  • A low maintenance 2 wheel option for working on the land.
  • Commuter capacity offering all the street legal gear when the convenience is needed.
  • With the adaption of some road wheels and tyres a road legal super moto is born (unless your bike is already based from the DR-Z400SM model).

Subsequently the DR-Z is truly diverse. It's a highly practical bike for those of us that cannot warrant a different bike for every occasion. It's likewise just a great off-roader that gets you out there with your mates, or enjoying a club ride .... just as long as your not trying to defy the laws of physics, expecting it to launch through extreme terrain as nimbly as a light weight modern design enduro rocket.

There's no medal for writing yourself off, so keeping your pace sensibly in check with your skills and your DR-Z's limits is a sound approach. Push it further and a whole lot of pain is a likely outcome. However if your content with not having the latest 'go fast' machine, the DR-Z is 'gold' for the fun and reliabilty you'll get out of it.
